Sr. Designer for a Leading Shopify Agency

We are seeking a senior designer to join our fast-growing Shopify agency (Black Lemon – a part of Obsidian). This role is ideal for someone passionate about design and e-commerce. We are looking for a candidate who has a good understanding of the unique challenges of e-commerce companies.

Who we are

Black Lemon specializes in making scalable Shopify e-commerce platforms, assisting merchants at any stage of their business growth. Our core competencies encompass development, e-commerce consultancy, digital design, and system integration. Our mission is to be the go-to agency for advanced Shopify builds. Leveraging modern stacks and innovative tools, we specialize in crafting and scaling bespoke Shopify platforms with cutting-edge designs. We have a very diverse team with many different backgrounds. The primary language spoken is English.

What you’ll do

• Design and conceptualize innovative, user-centric solutions from inception to completion, ensuring they meet client objectives and enhance user experience.
• Work closely with development teams to ensure design integrity is maintained throughout the development process.
• Lead the creative process for projects, including visual design, user experience, and user interface design.
• Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and identify design opportunities to improve the shopping experience.
• Develop and maintain design systems and guidelines to ensure consistency in brand representation across all digital platforms.
• Utilize modern design tools and software to create high-fidelity prototypes and mockups.
• Stay abreast of the latest design trends, technologies, and best practices in e-commerce and digital design. Implement these insights into design projects to keep the agency at the forefront of innovation.

What we are looking for

• Strong Design Portfolio: Demonstrable experience with a strong portfolio in digital design.
• Ecommerce Awareness: Understanding of ecommerce businesses, user experience best practices, and common challenges.
• Technical Proficiency: A good technical understanding of web design processes, including responsive design, and familiarity with design and prototyping tools such Figma.
• Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to lead design projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, marketers, and content creators.
• Curiosity and Continuous Learning: A genuine interest in staying up-to-date with the latest design trends, technologies, and best practices in e-commerce and digital design.
• Customer centric: Prioritizing client needs and ensuring the delivery of solutions that align with their goals.
• Accountability: Taking responsibility for one’s actions and decisions, and ensuring team members are also held accountable.
• Nice to have: Shopify Knowledge: Familiarity with the Shopify platform, its features, and functionalities.
